Resource type Psychometric Tests - Useful Resources
This collection of useful resources includes a list of websites where one can learn about tests, practice tests, and improve maths skills, but also a list of books on subject. Each resource is accompanied by a short description. They have been designed to allow graduates to prepare for the tests they may have to take during the job application process. This resource has been contributed under a Creative Commons licence to the mathcentre Community Project by Laura Hooke, Loughborough University London and reviewed by Dr Kinga Zaczek, Royal Holloway, University of London. It is one of a series of 17 resources produced by the sigma Network Employability Special Interest Group.
Resource type Pythagoras' theorem
This leaflet reminds students of Pythagoras' theorem and gives some simple examples. (Engineering Maths First Aid Kit 4.5)
Resource type Pythagoras' theorem
Pythagoras theorem - the square on the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares on the other two sides - is well known. In this tutorial we revise the theorem and use it to solve problems in right-angled triangles. A less familiar form of the theorem is also considered. (Mathtutor Video Tutorial) This resource is released under a Creative Commons license Attribution-Non-Commercial-No Derivative Works and the copyright is held by Skillbank Solutions Ltd.

Resource type Pythagoras' Theorem - an Animation
This mathtutor animation shows visually that the square on the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares on the other two sides. This resource is released under a Creative Commons license Attribution-Non-Commercial-No Derivative Works and the copyright is held by Skillbank Solutions Ltd.

Resource type Rearranging formulas 1
This leaflet explains how simple formulae are rearranged. (Engineering Maths First Aid Kit 2.10)
Resource type Rearranging Formulas 1
The ability to rearrange formulas, or rewrite them in different ways, is an important skills. This leaflet will explain how to rearrange some simple formulas.
Resource type Removing brackets 1
In order to simplify mathematical expressions, it is frequently necessary to 'remove brackets'. This leaflet explains the rules for replacing bracketed terms, with non-bracketed equivalents.
Resource type ROBBINS REVISITED - Bigger and Better Higher Education
A report by The Rt Hon. David Willetts MP, Minister for Universities and Science, revisiting issues in Higher Education first reported on by Robbins in 1963.
Resource type Second Order Ordinary Differential Equations
Second Order Differential Equations: A summary of how to solve second order ODEs with constant coefficients: how to solve homogeneous equations (with no right hand-side) and how to solve equations with a right hand-side (method of undetermined coefficients and methods of variation of parameters). This Teach Yourself resource is contributed to the mathcentre Community Project by Morgiane Richard, University of Aberdeen and is reviewed by Shazia Ahmed, University of Glasgow.
Resource type Second Order Ordinary Differential Equations (SOURCE)
A zip file containing the LaTeX source files and metadata for the Teach Yourself leaflet on Second Order Differential Equations: A summary of how to solve second order ODEs with constant coefficients: how to solve homogeneous equations (with no right hand-side) and how to solve equations with a right hand-side (method of undetermined coefficients and methods of variation of parameters). Resource type Setting up a maths support centre (HE STEM)
The focus of this HE STEM guide is to provide mathematics support to students across all STEM disciplines to ease the transition from School/College in to University. This is a key factor influencing drop-out from STEM degrees and a targeted provision for mathematics support is a proven way to counter this. It includes cases studies from the Universities of Coventry, Portsmouth, York. Lincoln and Kent and articulates the experiences of the two Sigma Directors Professor Duncan Lawson, Coventry University and Professor Tony Croft, Loughborough University joint winners of the 2011 Times Higher Award for Outstanding Support for Students
Resource type Sigma notation
This leaflet explains sigma notation. (Engineering Maths First Aid Kit 2.22)
Resource type Sigma notation
Sigma notation provides a concise and convenient way of writing long sums. This leaflet explains how.
Resource type Sigma notation
Sigma notation is a method used to write out a long sum in a concise way. In this unit we look at ways of using sigma notation, and establish some useful rules.

Resource type Simple linear equations
This leaflet shows how simple linear equations can be solved by performing the same operations on both sides of the equation.
Resource type Simple Linear Equations
In this unit we give examples of simple linear equations and show you how these can be solved. In any equation there is an unknown quantity, x say, that we are trying to find. In a linear equation this unknown quantity will appear only as a multiple of x, and not as a function of x such as x2, x3, sin x and so on. Linear equations occur so frequently in the solution of other problems that a thorough understanding of them is essential. (Mathtutor Video Tutorial) This resource is released under a Creative Commons license Attribution-Non-Commercial-No Derivative Works and the copyright is held by Skillbank Solutions Ltd.
